[Every Monday, a new ‘habit’ will be posted as part of my 52 Weeks of Healthy Habits for Bright Light Living series. These ‘Healthy Habits’ encompass habits for the mind, body, spirit, and one’s perspective of life—in order to LIVE BRIGHT. You may wish to implement the habits each week (if so, I encourage you to download the Healthy Habits Assessment form). Or, the week’s habit can simply serve as a journal prompt or something to ponder. It’s up to you. I do hope you will check in each week.]
Start your day off on the right foot with a freshly made bed. This one simple habit can set your course for the day. Within minutes, you have already been productive. It also helps prevent you from climbing back in and going back to sleep. (Seriously, this is one of the reasons I make my bed. . . I love sleeping.) Once that bed is made, you are committed to the day—and prepared to tackle it head on.
Believe-it-or-not, making the bed every morning can also reduce stress. The site of a freshly-made bed can actually calm you down and help you feel more relaxed—both in the morning and at night when you are about to climb in it. Rather than tugging with the covers or a tangled bundle of blankets and sheets, a made bed can help provide a soothing night of sleep.
