Meditate

I was holding off including this habit until I became more proficient at it.  If am being honest, my meditation practice is sporadic.  It is something that I’ve wanted to be diligent about, but the franticness of life has been my excuse for not practicing meditation daily.

Until now. . .one good silver lining of social isolation is having more time to — well — BE QUIET.  Because essentially that is all that meditation is.  There are various forms of meditation and even apps to help you practice; I am not an expert.

This is what meditation is for me.

It is simply sitting daily in quiet reflection. Taking deep breaths IN and then breathing OUT . . . negative thoughts, panic, and despair.

Breathing in a feeling of peace.

It is in this quiet time, that I am able to calm myself. (Did I mention, I am prone to anxiety? — I say this only to stress how effective this technique is!)

You may find that you do not have the attention span to do it more than a few minutes or even just one minute.  Any time counts.  The more you practice, the easier it is to (and longer you can) embrace this solitude.  Trust me, you will feel more grounded, relaxed, and empowered to face the day.

And sometimes, in this quiet, you will HEAR . . .answers, ideas, your heart and God speaking to you . . . reassuring you that it’s all going to be okay.

[Every Monday, a new ‘habit’ will be posted as part of my Bright Light Living Healthy Habits series. These ‘Healthy Habits’ encompass habits for the mind, body, spirit, and one’s perspective of life—in order to LIVE BRIGHT.  You may wish to implement the habits each week (if so, I encourage you to download the Healthy Habits Assessment form). Or, the week’s habit can simply serve as a journal prompt or something to ponder.  It’s up to you. I do hope you will check in each week.]
